MBA in Health Care Management Curriculum:

To receive MBA degree in Health Care Management, students must complete at least 80 quarter units of graduate credits +  Practical Training in the Industry (20 credits) + Master Thesis (20 credits). Total 120 credits; (Total study hours: 3,000).

MPT 700 - Practical Training (20 credits)

 In order to graduate MBA in Health Care Management, students are required to complete 500 hours of practical training in the industry. This practical training can be done through the last three semesters of the program and students are required to get approval from the professor prior to start the practical training. Upon completing the 500 hours of practical training, students are required to write a scholarly paper about the experience he/she has received through the practical training (this paper should reflect the knowledge and skills the students has gained from the practical training). Further, upon completion of the partial training, each student must pass an oral interview with the professor (lead faculty/graduate advisor) for getting the 20 credits in Health Care Management (towards the MBA program).

  

MST 800 - Master Thesis (20 Credits)

[Master Theses should be within the frame work of Strategic planning with related to Health care Management. (The theses should demonstrate the clear understanding about the health care business planning process and its implementation steps one need to understand and master it to become successful in the present day Global business environment - in the Health Care Industry). Specific topic should be decided between the student and professor]. Master Thesis (Business Project) is 20 credits and expected study hour is 500 hours.

  

Course Description:

LED 604 - Theories, Practices of Health Care Leadership: 6 Credits [150 study hours (Contact hours 60)]: - The course examines trends in Health Care Management in the present Global environment. The focus is on effective leadership practices as they relate to the Health Care Industry organizations. This includes leadership of inter-and intra-organizational leadership strategies, management theory and practice, and organization culture.

HCM 602 – Health Care Management: 6 Credits [150 study hours (Contact hours 60)]: -  This course provide the overview of the Health Care Management and students gain the knowledge of the healthcare supervisor’s job, role, functions and authority. Upon completion, student learn the inside knowledge of today’s health care work environment; what patients, staff, and managers expect of a health care manger. The typical levels of management, and the functions, skills and responsibilities associated with each, and difference between professional and management work. This course also gives clear inside in to the responsibility of Health Care Manager with related to developing the business in the present day Global environment.

 

MKT 602 - Marketing Management: 6 Credits [150 study hours (Contact hours 60)]: - This course provides an introduction to the fundamentals of managing the marketing function in an organization. Marketing decision-making and planning with regard to products, price, promotions, and channels of distribution are emphasized. The case study approach is utilized for pragmatic analysis of a realistic product situation. Market characteristics, product life cycles, segmentation, advertising, and consumer behavior are also discussed.

RMS 601 – Research Methodology and Statistics: 6 Credits: [150 study hours (Contact hours 60)]: - This course focuses on the structure and process of descriptive research across the discipline of business. This course presents the concepts of relationships, correlations and descriptive paradigms. Upon completion of the program, the student will be able to design a descriptive research study. The student should be able to utilize correct descriptive sampling techniques, collect and organize data systematically, adhere to acceptable reliability and validity standards in measurement, apply appropriate descriptive methodology, perform descriptive statistics analysis including mean, mode, median, correlations, chi square and t-tests with matched groups, and fully present findings. The student will also master the language of descriptive research, distinguish between various methodologies, conduct literature surveys that provide the foundation of investigation and critique descriptive research. Computer applications, logistical issues and ethical consideration are also examined in this course. 

FIN 609 - Financial Management of Health Care Organization: 6 Credits [150 study hours (Contact hours 60)]: - This course gives the students the tools and techniques of health care financial management. Upon completion, student gain knowledge of financial management in health maintains organization, hospitals, physician practices, home health agencies, nursing units, surgical centers, and integrated health care systems. Upon completion of the course the students improves overall knowledge and understand the overview of some of the key factors that are affecting the financial management of health care organizations in today’s environment. The course also applies financial theories and tools to capital budgeting and asset management. This course includes the management of the asset structure, and the liability structure of the firm. 

 

 TMS 606 – Technology Management: 4 Credits [100 study hours (Contact hours 40)]: - This course leads the student through an exploration of the current design and organizational philosophies that seek to bridge the gap between management information systems and the information needs of management in making sound decisions. General systems concepts that apply to that process, whether or not computers are employed, are examined. Emphasis is placed on how information needs are analyzed, how they become information-systems designs, and how those designs are implemented into a working system. This course also explored in depth the relationship between information system and data processing is also explored.

 

MGT 601 - Strategic Management in Health Care: 6 Credits [150 study hours (Contact hours 60)]: - This course provides an overview of Health Care Management strategic plans. Emphasis is given to the comprehensive international environment (cultural, political environment, legal system and the internal & external factors) and similarities and differences of doing business abroad. The course also provides practical and theoretical knowledge and skills for entrepreneurs and managers interested in doing with the Health Care business in the present global environment.

MGT 610- Graduate Business Project in Health Care Management: 6 Credits [150 study hours (Contact hours 60)]: - This project will give a good understanding about the international management in Health Care Management, including the concepts of corporate culture, integration, implementation, and globalization. The Graduate Business Project enables students to study and understand the business practices, culture, customs, and Health care business practices unique to a particular county or the region. Learning will be enhanced with business facility tours, and meeting with other university professors, industry executives and government leaders. The country can be selected on the prevailing student and faculty interest.

HRM 635 – Human Resource Management: 6 Credits [150 study hours (Contact hours 60)]: - This course is designed to assist future administrators in maximizing the productive us of personal and learn about various functions of Human resource management in the 21st century organization. There is a focus on selection, motivation, evaluation and negotiations. This course includes such categories as job descriptions, development, and performance evaluation instruments. The course provides an overview of generic management principles, as applied to the field of Human Service. Included are study and application of management theories, effective supervisory characteristics, problems, communications and leadership.

  

HPR 631 – Health Care Public Relation and Promotion: 4 Credits ([100 study hours (Contact hours 40)]: – This course will help students to get a deeper knowledge and understanding about the importance in various methods to use for communicating to the public relation and the promotion strategies. The text will introduce students to the fast-changing filed of advertising and promotion. While advertising is its primary focus in this course but it gives more than just an introductory advertising course because there is more to most organizations’ promotional programs than just advertising. At end of the course students will gain knowledge and understanding about the importance of using proper communication tools to communicate with consumers on today’s health care business world. 

ECM 601 - Effective Communication for Managers: 6 Credits [150 study hours (Contact hours 60)]: - This course is designed to guide the student in development of advanced communication techniques that are required and expected in middle and senior management. The desired outcomes include: (1) the ability to present a strategic plan; (2) the effective use of mass communication techniques for remote reports and large organizations; (3) the effective use of presentation techniques using audio/visual tools and computing assets; and (4) the use of communication tools for working groups.

HMP 609 – Health Care Master Project: 4 Credits [100 study hours (Contact hours 40)]: - This study project provides the participant with a general overview of Health Care Management, including the concepts of corporate culture, integration, implementation, and successful strategies. The course enables students to study in another country’s Health Care set up and its Management practices with the guidance and supervision of a qualified faculty member, and accompanied by other graduate students. Business practices, culture, customs, and the Health care public policies that are unique to that county or that region will be the focus of discussion. Learning will be enhanced with business facility tours, and meeting with other university professors in Health Care Management, industry executives and government leaders. The country is selected on the basis of prevailing student and faculty interests.

MCA 640 – Manage Care and Contract Administration: 4 Credits [100 study hours (contract hours 40)]: Upon completion, students understand the manage care system and gain the inside of the financing and delivery of health service in today’s health care plan. Students acquire knowledge and understand the health maintains organization (HMO) and its functions, such as the contractual arrangements with the health care provides (e.g.: physicians, hospital and other health care professionals) and familiar with the “provider network” arrangement in the Health care Administration.

 

HCP 630 – Health Care Public Policy: 4 Credits [100 study hours (Contract hours 40)]: This is an independent research based study course; students are required to do the research of two countries (USA and one of the European countries); compare and contrast its health care public policies of those two countries and present the student’s review. The study and research must be done under the guideline & approval the professor; upon completion of the research, student must prepare a scholarly report/review and publish it into some local or international journal. Upon completion, students would be able to able to understand the importance of a sound health care public policy and would be able to utilize those systems and its policy for the beneficial of the organization and to the general public.

  

AMC 605 – Ambulatory Health Care: 4 Credits [100 study hours (contact hours 40)]: This course provide the opportunity for the student to gain inside knowledge and understand about the various ambulatory care services that today’s health care manager needs to know and get familiar; (such as the outpatient clinics, urgent care centers, emergency rooms, ambulatory or same-day  surgery centers, diagnostic and managing centers, primary care centers, community health centers, occupational health centers, mental health clinics, and group practices). Student also will learn about the ambulatory health care organizations and its benefits for the health care managers, executives and for the care workers.

  

HCE 608 – Health Care Ethics: 6 Credits [150 study hours (contact hours 60)]: This course help students to understand and master the importance of doing the right thing, outlines the social responsibilities and what constitutes ethical behavior in today’s health care work place.  This course also give the students the inside knowledge & skills to understand the common types of ethical dilemmas and ways to respond and the common relationships for an unethical behavior. In summary, this course help student to acquire skills to think and encourage maintaining the high ethical standards and socially responsible responses to different situations are presented while managing the today’s health care organizations.

  

MKT 634 - Market Research: 4 Credits [100 study hours (Contact hours 40)]:- A thorough examination of the scope and role of research in making marketing decisions in essential for students selecting a career in marketing. Current techniques and strategies are analyzed, and opportunities are provided for developing skills in conducting actual research. Contemporary research findings are examined.
